Luis started his career in newspapers early on when just 15 years old he began an apprenticeship as a linotype operator with a local daily paper 'El Pais' , in Asunción, Paraguay. Luis entro en el periodismo cuando muy joven. A la edad de 15 años empezo a trabajar como aprendiz de linotipista en el diario El País. In 1957 Luis, now manager of the shop, grew concerned that the newspaper might fall behind it's competitors and called on the owners to modernize with new equipment. Luis having researched new techniques from many places around the world was convinced that the staff needed new methods, machines and training. When his ideas where met with deaf ears, Luis tendered his resignation and moved to Buenos Aires to work for a commercial printing company. En 1957 Luis ocupaba el cargo de jefe de talleres y en esos 12 años El País no había modernizado su equipo ni sus instalaciones. Viendo la necesidad de hacer este medio competitivo, Luis solicitó presupuesto para la adquisición de equipo nuevo. El dictador le informó que no había el dinero necesario y le contesto con la presentación de su renuncia. Viajo a Buenos Aires para trabajar en una imprenta comercial. In 1964 Luis's wife Edita had just returned from a year's study in the United States as a Fulbright scholar and spoke of the many opportunities that the country offered and convinced him that they should immigrate to America En 1964 su señora Edita quien obtuvo una beca para estudiar en los Estados Unidos regreso y habló de las grandes oportunidades que ese país ofrecía a los inmigrantes lo que le animo a radicarse en America.
