Luis decided to move to the United States in 1964. Edita, his wife had just returned from a year long scholarship to study in the US and she told him of all the wonderful opportunities that were open to new immigrants. Luis was very excited about this prospect and in 1965 made the decision to move his family to California. After much hardship in finding work, Luis contacted his former captain from the Paraguayan military service who lived in Las Vegas, Nevada and asked for help. With this help Luis was able to get a job at the Las Vegas Sun, a daily newspaper where he worked for the rest of his career. Luis reloco a su familia a los Estados Unidos.
